Ocean Funatics: A little something for our little ones

Are you not sure what to do with your children this coming October holiday? Don’t worry - we’ve got your back! For our Grade 2 and 3 learners, we have our second Oceans Funatics course coming up. The course will take place from 6 - 8 October from 08:30 to 12:30. This course is R500 per learner (if you book for two learners, it will be R950). Learners will learn more about ocean animals and gain a love for the ocean with a splash of knowledge, a dash of arts, and a whole lot of crafts! The young learners will get the opportunity to explore the Aquarium floor before anyone else. It’s a once-in-a-lifetime adventure (unless they sign up again, of course).

Here are some highlights to give you a taste of what your young ocean explorers can experience when they join us. This course is bursting with energy, excitement, and unforgettable moments as learners dive into the marine world, make new friends, and unleash their creativity.

The course starts with laughter and connection as learners take part in a fun icebreaker that has everyone dancing, giggling, and feeling comfortable with their new classmates. Once the group is warmed up, the adventure begins with a hands-on exploration of life in rockpools. Learners touch, feel, and describe the textures of marine animals, sharpening both their observation skills and vocabulary. By the end, they sound like budding marine scientists, confidently expressing what they see and feel.

The Two Oceans Aquarium floor becomes an ocean safari as learners set out with their booklets to spot different species. They observe colours, shapes, and patterns, comparing and evaluating what they find. This isn’t just a scavenger hunt, it's science in action, disguised as fun. The excitement continues in the classroom, where they step into the world of reptiles and discover the differences between turtles, tortoises, and terrapins. Along the way, they learn about the importance of protecting our oceans, inspired by stories that connect conservation with their daily lives.

Sharks always steal the spotlight, and learners can’t get enough of them. They work together to piece together shark puzzles, dive into fascinating facts, and even touch real shark skin and a shark egg. The thrill of these encounters makes the science come alive, leaving learners wide-eyed and full of questions.

Every session ends with creativity, as learners turn their experiences into art. From decorating eco-bags and bookmarks to crafting turtle coasters and shark wristbands, their imaginations flow as freely as the paint on their fingers. The joy of learning blends seamlessly with laughter, colour, and proud smiles as they show off their creations.

Our Ocean Funatics course is not just about lessons, it’s about sparking curiosity, building confidence, and inspiring a lifelong love for the ocean. Every child leaves with unforgettable memories, new friendships, and a deeper respect for the natural world.

If you know a Grade 2 or 3 learner who is ready to dive into discovery, don’t wait. Spaces for our upcoming courses are limited, and they fill up quickly.
