The Two Oceans Aquarium & Texx and the City present: After Dark 2026
After Dark is back at the Two Oceans Aquarium, bringing some of South Africa’s most exciting live music talent into one of Cape Town’s most atmospheric after-hours spaces.
Presented in partnership with Texx and the City, the 2026 After Dark series invites guests to experience the Aquarium in a completely different light. Over three winter evenings in July, August, and September, the viewing area in front of the I&J Ocean Exhibit will be transformed into an intimate, living room-style concert setting, where two acts will perform stripped-down sets each night.
There really is nothing quite like live music surrounded by the gentle blue glow of the Aquarium after dark. Guests can wander through the exhibits when the lights are low, take in the calm of the marine life after hours, and then settle in for an evening of beautifully curated local music.
Doors open at 18h30, with the first act at 20h00 and the second at 21h00. Tickets are R445 and include a complimentary cocktail courtesy of Jägermeister, with a non-alcoholic option also available. A cash bar will be open, and food can be purchased before the show and during the interval. Capacity is limited to 180 people per event, so early booking is highly recommended.
Wednesday 29 July 2026: Akeeda and Porcelain Moon
The first After Dark evening of the season opens with Akeeda and Porcelain Moon.
Akeeda brings an intimate singer-songwriter sensibility to the Aquarium stage, with music rooted in honesty, vulnerability, and reflective storytelling. Her sound sits beautifully in the After Dark setting: Stripped back, emotionally direct, and made for close listening.
Porcelain Moon adds a dreamy indie-pop mood to the evening. The Cape Town act describes its sound as “indie pop for your daydreams”, making it a perfect match for a night of music beneath the glow of the I&J Ocean Exhibit.
Together, Akeeda and Porcelain Moon promise an opening night filled with atmosphere, warmth, and the kind of music that invites you to slow down and listen closely.
Wednesday 26 August 2026: Freddy L and Petrol Station Pies
August’s After Dark brings together Freddy L and Petrol Station Pies for a night with a little more grit, groove, and heart.
Freddy L is a South African alternative three-piece based between Durban and Cape Town, blending indie influences with homegrown singer-songwriter energy. Their live sound is heartfelt and dynamic, making them a strong fit for the intimacy of the After Dark format.
Petrol Station Pies bring their own character to the lineup, adding an offbeat alternative edge to the evening. Expect a performance that contrasts beautifully with the calm of the Aquarium setting: Raw, memorable, and full of personality.
This mid-series show is ideal for anyone who loves discovering local acts in unusual spaces, especially when that space happens to be one of Cape Town’s most iconic marine attractions.
Wednesday 23 September 2026: Lost Youth and The Dirty Skirts
The final After Dark evening for 2026 closes the series with Lost Youth and The Dirty Skirts.
Lost Youth brings a more intimate acoustic direction to the stage, with a sound that leans into ethereal folk-pop and offers a softer, more reflective entry point into the evening.
The Dirty Skirts need little introduction to South African indie-rock fans. With a catalogue that includes the SAMA-winning Lost in the Fall, as well as more recent releases such as Radiant Clouds and Bleeding Out, their appearance at After Dark is a special chance to experience one of Cape Town’s beloved bands in a rare, stripped-down setting.
Closing the series in front of the I&J Ocean Exhibit, this September concert promises a memorable finale: Familiar songs, new textures, and the Aquarium transformed into one of the city’s most beautiful live music venues.
Experience the Aquarium after hours
After Dark is not just a concert. It is a chance to experience the Two Oceans Aquarium in a way most visitors never do: Quieter, moodier, and lit by the movement of marine life after hours. Arrive early, explore your favourite exhibits, enjoy a drink, grab something to eat, and then settle in for a night of music in a setting unlike any other in Cape Town.
After Dark has sold out across its previous runs, and with only 180 tickets available per event, these winter concerts are expected to move quickly.
Book your tickets now and join us for three nights of unforgettable live music at the Two Oceans Aquarium.
