Thank you for joining the Two Oceans Aquarium, FNB and Clean C for a FANTASTIC Trash Bash!
This past Saturday, the Two Oceans Aquarium and FNB teamed up for another one of our popular Trash Bash beach cleanups! Despite the windy conditions, people came out in their numbers to do their bit in tidying up the beach and fighting plastic pollution in the process.
Considering the Cape Town wind was not polite, the turnout was great. We had an estimate of about 120 people in attendance, ready with their smiles, their loved ones, and their buckets! The collective effort resulted in the impressive 102.24 kilograms of beach pollution collected, making a significant contribution to a cleaner coastline.
The morning was a great example of environmental responsibility and community action, leaving participants with a sense of accomplishment and a renewed appreciation of Cape Town's beautiful coastline. While beaches like Muizenberg Beach may seem superficially clean, cleanup initiatives like this encourage people to pay closer attention to the often hidden bits of litter hiding in plain sight - and we think that the chance to awareness about the critical issue of plastic pollution plaguing our oceans is the even greater accomplishment.
Why we partner with FNB:
Why have we teamed up with FNB? FNB famously strives to support communities, while making as big of a social and environmental impact as possible. One of their aspirations is to have net zero carbon emissions by 2030 in their South African operations. This, combined with their attempts to combat climate change, indicates their forward-thinking and visible contributions to a better environment. For this reason, we're excited to welcome FNB as a partner for our Trash Bash beach cleanups and we believe they will contribute to even more Trash Bash success. So, we hope you'll join the party!
The next Trash Bash will be taking place at Sunset Beach on 20 April 2024, and we look forward to seeing many of you there. Please find the dates for all our 2024 cleanups further down too.
Why join Trash Bash?
The ocean faces a serious threat: Plastic pollution. Billions of tons of plastic end up in our waters each year, harming marine life and ecosystems.
That's where Trash Bash comes in! We host regular beach cleanup events to tackle this crucial issue. By joining us, you can directly contribute to:
- Cleaning our coastlines: Every piece of trash removed safeguards marine creatures and their habitat.
- Raising awareness: Witnessing the volume of collected waste underscores the gravity of plastic pollution, inspiring positive change.
- Fostering a love for our oceans: Experiencing the natural beauty firsthand reminds us of the importance of protecting this vital resource.
Trash Bash isn't just about cleaning; It's about education, community, and celebrating a healthier ocean.
