Win a penguin experience for two!

1. Promoter
The promoter is the Two Oceans Aquarium, Dock Road, V&A Waterfront, Cape Town (“the Aquarium”). Competition enquiries: aquarium@aquarium.co.za.

2. Competition period
The competition runs from 24 September 2026 at 09h00 until 5 October 2026 at 18h00. Qualifying visits and membership upgrades must take place during this period and within the Aquarium’s operating hours.

3. Eligibility
The competition is open to people aged 18 or older who meet one of the entry routes below and have a valid email address recorded against their qualifying transaction or membership. The parents or legal guardians of ticket or upgrade purchases or member visit redemptions made on behalf of children will be considered to be the entrant.

Employees, directors, agents and consultants of the promoter, persons controlling or controlled by the promoter, competition service providers, and their spouses, life partners, business partners and immediate families are excluded.

A winner may bring a guest aged 8 or older, subject to the Penguin Experience participation requirements.

4. Online ticket draw
An eligible purchaser receives one entry when a day ticket bought through the Aquarium’s official online shop is used for a recorded visit during the competition period.

An online purchase alone does not qualify: A visit must also take place during the competition period. Tickets bought before the campaign may qualify if used during it.

Entry is allocated to the purchaser associated with the email address on the booking.

5. Membership upgrade draw
An eligible online-ticket entrant receives one additional entry if they upgrade their qualifying day ticket to membership during the competition period.

An eligible visitor who bought a day ticket in person receives one entry if they visit and upgrade that ticket to membership during the competition period. Upgrades can be made in-person at the Aquarium’s Visitor Centre.

The upgrade must be recorded against a valid email address. To link an online purchase to its upgrade, use the same email address for both.

Keep your day ticket as proof of purchase and ask the Visitor Centre to assist with the upgrade and applicable price difference.

6. Existing members’ draw
An eligible person with an active membership established before the 24 September 2026 receives one entry into the separate members’ draw when a visit is recorded during the competition period.

Entry uses the email address associated with the membership record. The membership must be valid on the qualifying visit date.

People who become members through a campaign-period day-ticket upgrade participate through the visitor-draw upgrade route and do not additionally qualify as existing members.

7. Entry limits and records

No additional entries are awarded for repeated visits, purchases, upgrades or use of alternative email addresses by the same entrant.

Cancelled, refunded, fraudulent or otherwise invalid transactions do not qualify. 

8. Entry costs
There is no separate competition entry fee or competition surcharge. Ordinary ticket and membership prices apply. Entrants bear their normal internet or data costs.

9. Prizes
Two prizes are available:

• Visitor draw: One Penguin Experience for the winner and one guest, intended to be the first guest Penguin Experience in the new exhibit once experiences commence.
• Existing members’ draw: One separate Penguin Experience for the winner and one guest during the opening period.

Each prize includes the experience and Aquarium admission for its two participants on the booked day. Travel, accommodation, parking, meals and other incidental expenses are excluded.

Prizes cannot be exchanged for cash or resold. No payment or membership renewal is required to claim a prize.

10. Draws and winner notification
The two winners will be selected at random from the respective verified entry lists by 9 October 2026.

Winners will be contacted using their qualifying email addresses within 7 working days of the draw. Each winner must respond within 14 working days of notification.

The Aquarium will make at least 3 contact attempts before selecting a replacement winner if the original winner cannot be reached, declines the prize or is found ineligible. Eligibility may be verified using reasonable proof of identity, purchase, membership and visit records.

11. Opening date and booking
The new penguin exhibit’s opening date has not yet been announced. The commencement of Penguin Experiences may differ from the exhibit’s public opening date.

The Aquarium will contact both winners directly to arrange their experiences once operational dates are confirmed. Booking depends on exhibit readiness, animal welfare and the availability of the penguin-care team.

If the visitor-draw winner cannot attend the first offered experience after reasonable scheduling notice, they may accept a later experience for two, but first-experience status cannot be guaranteed.

An Aquarium-related postponement will not cause the winner to lose the prize. If the experience becomes permanently unavailable, the Aquarium will agree an appropriate alternative of equivalent or greater value with the winner, subject to applicable law.

12. Penguin Experience requirements
Both participants must be at least 8 years old. Participants must follow keeper instructions, wear suitable clothing and soft-soled footwear, complete the required participation documentation, and comply with applicable health and animal-welfare procedures.

Animal interactions are voluntary and cannot be guaranteed. Experiences may be postponed for animal-care or welfare reasons.

The Aquarium’s published Penguin Experience participation conditions apply, as disclosed when the competition launches, except where these competition rules expressly provide otherwise. Standard purchase-payment, refund and financial penalty provisions do not apply to the complimentary prize.

Winners should give at least 24 hours’ notice when requesting a booking change. An unexplained failure to attend a confirmed booking may result in forfeiture, subject to reasonable consideration of medical or exceptional circumstances.

13. Personal information
The Aquarium will use the minimum necessary ticketing, visit, membership and contact information to verify entries, conduct the draws, contact winners and fulfil prizes, in accordance with its privacy notice and applicable data-protection law.

Access will be limited to authorised personnel and service providers assisting with competition administration or verification. Records will be retained for legally required periods and securely disposed of when no longer needed.

Competition entry does not constitute consent to additional marketing communications. 

14. Publicity
Winners may be invited to participate in photographs, interviews or promotional content. Participation is optional and declining will not affect entitlement to a prize. Any promotional use of a winner’s name or image requires appropriate permission.

15. Fair administration
The Aquarium may exclude fraudulent or materially non-compliant entries and correct genuine administrative errors. Any necessary changes will be communicated online and will not unlawfully remove rights already earned by entrants or winners.

Nothing in these rules limits statutory consumer rights.
