Aquarium visitor takes the plunge…outside the I&J Predator Exhibit

It wasn’t only Two Oceans Aquarium visitor Uhlricht Adendorff who took the plunge a few weeks back and proposed to girlfriend Chantal Kock – he asked a few divers getting into the I&J Predator Exhibit to help him out.

Uhlricht said the day took some careful preparation. “I had to plan it perfectly. The divers would only jump into the tank at 14h00. I had to stall her every 10 minutes to make sure that we got there at the right time.”

Chantal and Uhlricht have been together for more than five years, having first met through a group of mutual friends. When the time came for Uhlricht to pop the question, he had several zany ideas about how he wanted to do it – writing the words on a fortune cookie, putting the proposal up on a website, or making a crossword puzzle.

“Then the Aquarium came to mind. I’d heard that it is used as a wedding venue, and when I contacted them about my idea, they gave me some advice, and together we came up with the plan.”

With Chantal in position in front of the I&J Predator Exhibit tank, the divers made their way around to the main viewing window. At just the right moment, they opened up the banner that Uhlricht had provided – two messages cleverly mixed together: “I love you” in white lettering, and “Will You Marry Me?” in yellow.

“As they opened the poster, Chantal looked around to see who the lucky person was,” said Uhlricht. “That’s when I went down on one knee and took out the ring to propose.”

“Of course, she was in shock and didn’t answer me immediately. But then I asked her again, and she said yes!”

Uhlricht and Chantal both say it was a moment the two of them will never forget.

From everyone at the Two Oceans Aquarium, congratulations!
