Vacancy: ECD Teacher

The Two Oceans Aquarium Education Foundation has one part-time contract position available for 10 months only, in its ECD Centre.  This position ideally requires a dynamic, fun-loving and energetic person. The ideal candidate must be capable of interacting well with teachers, school groups, parents, children and tourists. Candidates must have strong organisational skills, be decisive and have excellent oral communication skills.

The main purpose of this position is to deliver teaching programmes and to provide our younger visitors with an excellent and memorable customer experience.

Preference will be given to those applicants who also have a keen interest in theatre, drama and a concern for the environment. The position is aquarium based with regular travel to schools in surrounding areas

Main responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to:

  • Executing teaching duties by performing puppet/theatre shows and presenting accompanying lessons to school groups and the public;
  • Maintaining all aspects of the ECD Centre facility; organising activities and crafts, daily operations including stock counts, monitoring maintenance faults and cleanliness in the centre.

Requirements:

  • A Diploma in Early Childhood Development as well as teaching and drama experience is essential.
  • An excellent command of the English language is essential, as well as fluency in Xhosa and/or Afrikaans. 
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Excellent computer & MS Office skills is essential.
  • The ability to work independently without supervision.
  • Ability to work with cash, calculate and receive payments.
  • Be available to work flexible hours between 7am and 6pm including weekends, public and school holidays.

Vacancy: Drama & Sales Assistant

The Two Oceans Aquarium Education Foundation has one part-time contract position available for 12 months only, in its ECD Centre.  This position requires a dynamic, well-organised, friendly person with a love for and affinity for working with children.  In addition, it requires the ability to work as part of a team. The ideal candidate must be capable of interacting well with clients including teachers, school groups, parents, children and tourists. Candidates must have excellent oral and writing skills.

The main purpose of this position is to assist with the development, promotion and delivering of new and existing educational programmes offered to our younger visitors and schools. 

Preference will be given to those applicants who have sales experience and a keen interest in theatre, drama and a concern for the environment. The position is aquarium based with regular travel to schools in surrounding areas

Main responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to:

  • Assisting with all aspects of the development of educational programmes.
  • Assisting with the sales of programmes and products, including contacting schools, checking orders and equipment, managing sales transactions and monthly stock taking.
  • Performing puppet/theatre shows and presenting accompanying lessons to school groups and the public.
  • Assisting with all aspects of the ECD Centre facility and operations; organising activities and crafts, daily operations including stock counts, monitoring maintenance faults and cleanliness in the centre.

Requirements:

  • At least 2 years drama and/or sales experience.  Qualifications would be an advantage. 
  • -Experience in the performing arts and working with children is an essential.
  • An excellent command of the English language is essential. Fluency in Xhosa would be an added advantage. 
  • Computer & MS Office skills is essential.
  • The ability to work independently without supervision.
  • Ability to work with cash, calculate and receive payments, invoices, quotations and rand value calculations.
  • Be available to work flexible hours between 7am and 6pm including weekends, public and school holidays.
