Have you always wondered what it's like to breathe underwater?
If you want to try scuba diving, but aren't quite ready to take the plunge into a full certification course, PADI Discover Scuba Diving at the PADI-Certified Two Oceans Aquarium Dive School is for you.
The PADI Discover Scuba Diving Course has been designed to provide scuba diving novices with an enjoyable and closely supervised experience. Although this is not a scuba certification course, you'll learn what it takes to be a PADI certified diver. As with any PADI course or programme, diver safety is the first priority when planning and conducting Discover Scuba Diving.
Upon successful completion of a half-day PADI Discover Scuba Diving Course, you will be able to do a single dive in the Aquarium’s I&J Ocean Exhibit on the same day. Should you wish to progress onto a PADI Open Water certification at the Two Oceans Aquarium Dive School, your completed Discover Scuba Diving course will count towards that qualification and a saving will apply
The PADI Discover Scuba Diving course costs R1 945 per person. This includes training, I&J Ocean Exhibit scuba diving, gear rental and everything else you need for the course. Active Aquarium Members enjoy a 25% discount.
Participants must be aged 10 years or older.
Important medical information:
In order to scuba dive at the Two Oceans Aquarium, you need to be reasonably healthy. Please download the medical questionnaire. Have a look through the questions on Page 2. If you answer “Yes” to any of the questions, you will need a letter from a doctor clearing you for diving. If you answer “No” to all questions, no doctor’s letter is required. Should there be an answer that concerns us, we reserve the right to ask for a referral to a diving physician. For your safety and ours, honesty when answering these questions is of paramount importance.
We can accommodate a maximum of three people per course session.
The Discover Scuba Diving experience lasts on average three hours. This will allow you to dive on that day, with our PADI-certified instructor, in the Aquarium’s I&J Ocean Exhibit.
Your day starts at the Aquarium at 09h30 or 14h00 sharp. We start in the classroom where we cover some scuba theory. We then move to the training pool, where we teach the basic water skills. When finished in the pool, we dive in the I&J Ocean Exhibit. This dive typically lasts for 30 minutes.
Please refer to the end of this page for a detailed outline of course content.
What is provided?
We provide everything you will need on the day, including all gear, study material, and hot showers and towels.
All you need to bring along is a swimsuit and a reusable water bottle.
Flying after diving:
Please be advised that you may not do this course and dive if you are planning to fly within 12 hours after the dive.
