The winter school holidays start this weekend, and you bet we’ve got a line-up to beat the winter blues and keep the kids entertained, educated and endlessly stimulated! From 25 June to 17 July, it’s going to be all about young ones (and those young at heart) interacting with the Weird, Wild and Wonderful life that’s harboured at the Two Oceans Aquarium.
This year, we’re tapping into election fever and asking you, the public, to come inside and make your mark! Vote for the weirdest, wildest, most wonderful of them all …
Will you choose Puff Daddy, the evileye pufferfish, with his explosive personality?
Or maybe your vote will go to Sugar Daddy, the longsnout pipefish who’s a fool for love.
You’ll also find out more about the hagfish, sargassum fish (new to the Aquarium), the poison arrow frog, scorpion fish, sea fan and cleaner shrimp through our interactive displays. Then you’ll be asked to make a choice in each category.
We’ll give you a ballot paper – choose your favourite weird, wild and wonderful creature, make your mark and then fill in the entry form on the back: You could win a Big 5 safari for two adults and two children at Aquila Private Game Reserve worth R6 500. Aquila has got its fair share of wild – you can see the Big Five at this much-loved reserve, just a short trip out of Cape Town.
To complement the weird, wild and wonderful contingent, we’ll be presenting magic shows on every Saturday during the school holiday (at 12h30 and 14h00) and free face-painting in the AfriSam Children’s Centre on every Sunday of the school holiday.
The AfriSam Childrten’s Centre is also running a dedicated craft schedule, themed “Weird, Wild and Wonderful”, during the school holidays. From 25 June to 3 July, little ones will get interactive with crafts themed “weird”; from 4 to 10 July, it’s time to get “wild” with arts and crafts; and from 11 to 17 July it’s all things “wonderful”.
Kids will create their own masks, finger puppets, Chinese fans, mini-kites and more …
Sea you at the Aquarium soon!
