It's almost time for us to go back to school but the sun is still shining and there is still time to visit the fish (and the jellies, and the penguins, and the turtles) at the Two Oceans Aquarium. Here are some tips to make your trip to the Aquarium that much sweeter.

Extended hours are running!

Until 6 January, we open earlier every day: doors open at 9am and this is the ideal time to join the fishes in their cool underwater world, and then enjoy brunch at our kiosks. We will also be closing later – at 7pm* (*last ticket sold at 6:30pm).

After some fun in the sun at the beach, or a manic day of shopping at the V&A Waterfront, you should come back to the chilled magic and tranquility of the Aquarium in the late afternoon. Remember, a day ticket allows multiple entries to the Aquarium on the same day, so you can come and go as you please. May a day of it!

Express entry

If you become a Two Oceans Aquarium member, you can skip the queue at the ticket office, get express access as well as unlimited visits to the fish. After just three visits, you’ve recouped the cost of an annual pass.

(Not to mention all the other benefits, like discounts and exclusive events. This is a great gift for you and your loved ones.)

Visit us earlier or later

Early mornings, when we open at 9:00am, are very quiet – mostly holiday makers are still having breakfast somewhere in the V&A Waterfront. You can follow your early-morning visit with a brunch of your own. And late afternoons, from about 4pm, are totally magical too. It tends to be quieter from 4pm till close, absolute bliss if you don’t want to negotiate the masses.

Your ticket is valid for the entire day, so you can come and go as you please.

Our on-site ticket office sells the last ticket for the day at 6:30pm until 6 January.

Loads to do for little ones

We’ve just introduced our “sandy surprise" down at the Touch Pool. Grab a brush and find out what we’ve hidden.

We’ve created an exciting arts and crafts roster for little ones in the AfriSam Children’s Play Centre. Your tots can make fridge magnets, tree decorations, money boxes, marine animals and more! The activity changes daily.

Introduce your kids to Beauty and her friends through our wonderful puppet shows for kids in the Play Centre, every day at 10:30am, 1:30pm and 3:30pm.

Feeding times

The African penguins are fed every day at 11:30am and 2:30pm, and the the animals in the I&J Ocean Exhibit  are fed at 12 noon (with a diver) and 2pm (drop feed).

Both sets of feeds are presented by our knowledgeable staff and are full of “I didn’t know that!” facts.

Essential viewing!

Encounters

You are invited to get up close and personal with some of our animals. Penguin Encounters are run once a day (booking is essential), and afford the opportunity to meet our adorable rockhopper penguins.

Scuba divers can see the world from a turtle’s point of view by taking the plunge in the I&J Ocean Exhibit and the Ocean Basket Kelp Forest Exhibit. Divers will tell you, everything is better down where it’s wetter.

Go outside

We offer a special combo deal that includes entry to the Aquarium as well as an eco-safari around Table Bay on the Ocean Adventurer. Spend 90 minutes on a beautiful catamaran, learning all about the rich biodiversity of Cape Town’s waters, and looking out for dolphins, seals, sunfish and whales. You’ll hear from a trained guide about the unique upwelling systems off the South African coastline, and how this creates an ideal environment for an abundance of wildlife.
