Volunteer applications for 2021 have closed. Please follow us or subscribe to our newsletter to be notified when the next induction training opportunity arises.

You've been waiting patiently, but we're very pleased to announce that applications are open for new Two Oceans Aquarium volunteers - you just need to complete a short induction course!

Our volunteers are people who love the ocean and offer up some of their free time to help us spread the love of the sea's life. You don't need any prior experience or qualifications to become a volunteer, so this is the perfect opportunity for people who want a taste of what their future career in marine science may hold, or who already have a career in an unrelated field and simply want a hobby that keeps them in touch with the ocean. Young or old - all are welcome.

Volunteer induction course information:

  • Start date: 1 November 2021
  • Applications closing date: 15 October 2021
  • Requirements: Ages 18+, a willingness to volunteer at the Aquarium in Cape Town, and a love of the ocean!
  • Format: Online and in-person (in-person practicals on Saturdays from 6 Nov to 4 Dec)
  • Course cost: R200 per person
  • How to apply: Complete the online application form below.

Course format:

The online component volunteer induction course will begin on 1 November, via the e-learning platform of the Two Oceans Aquarium Education Foundation and using Zoom for live sessions. The course will take place over 4 weeks, consisting primarily of self-study content, and in-person practical sessions at the Aquarium and assessments. These practical sessions will take place on Saturdays from 6 November to 4 December 2021.

Once your course is completed and you've passed the assessments, you may volunteer on the floor with our visitors, educating them on the animals and plants found along our coastline. We require each new volunteer to begin as a front-of-house volunteer for a prescribed number of shifts, and to meet a minimum level of commitment, before being allowed to assist in other roles behind-the-scenes - but if you stick with the programme, you'll be able to get involved wherever your passion lies at the Aquarium!

Application form:

Once completed, the course coordinator will be in touch with further details and with payment information for the R200 registration fees. We recommend completing this form using a computer, or with your phone in horizontal orientation.
