Hold onto your socks, there’s a new live music venue in town this winter. The Two Oceans Aquarium and Texx and the City have teamed up for After Dark, a series of stripped-down music events featuring some of South Africa’s best bands. Southern Wild, Grassy Spark, AKING, Bam Bam Brown, Majozi and Gemma Griffiths will be performing in one of Cape Town’s best-loved attractions (yes, that’s us!) – two bands per night, three nights only, these are set to be the dreamiest gigs of all…

29 August: Majozi and Gemma Griffiths

On 29 August, take in the magic of Majozi and newcomer Gemma Griffiths at the Two Oceans Aquarium.

Please note - this event is sold out. No tickets will be available at the door.

The bands will perform acoustic versions of their signature tunes - expect some serious, wintery, mellow vibes and best of South African music in the most sensational setting you can imagine - 1.6 million litres of sea water housing stingrays, turtles, guitarfish, and many more marine creatures.

Big thanks fo Drifter Brewery for providing either a Buchu-infused Gin ‘n’ Tonic or a Pick Me Up Pale Ale to each guest upon arrival. The full range of Drifter beers will be on sale throughout the event.

In June, July and August 2018, the area in front of the I&J Ocean Exhibit will be transformed into a cozy, living room-style setting where you’ll be able to enjoy awesome, acoustic, local music.

Tecla Ciolfi, doyenne of the local music scene and founder of entertainment website Texx and the City, personally curated the artists who will be gracing our fishy stage and we can’t be more excited about what’s coming.

We used to host music recitals at the Aquarium years ago and they were very popular. Because of demand, and recognising that the Aquarium is a unique, spellbinding venue where truly anything is possible, we’ve been keen to bring live music back for quite some time now. Of course, we needed to make sure that we could put on the perfect show that showcases the best of local talent while inviting listeners through our doors, after closing time, to experience music in a whole new way. Texx and the City the obvious choice of partner for After Dark – Tecla is highly respected in the industry, has her finger on the pulse of local music, and just so happens to be a genuine fan of the Aquarium.

Tecla said: “The Two Oceans Aquarium is without a doubt my favourite place in Cape Town and I’ve never been more excited about any events I’ve ever hosted. Texx and the City also turns 10 years old this year so I’m using After Dark as the perfect excuse to have three birthday parties that feature some of my favourite SA bands!”

We’ve also asked Drifter Brewing Company, known for the unusual brews, to partner with us for this event. Drifter will be provide either a tasty buchu-infused gin and tonic or a Pick Me Up Pale Ale to each guest upon arrival and the full range of Drifter beers will be on sale throughout each event.
