Appearance and lifestyle:
The zebra is an oval shaped fish that has six vertical black bars and one of them run through the eye. They have fleshy lips that they use to grasp food and then move it into position for the cutting incisor teeth. They grow to 60cm and can weigh over 6 kg. Can live up to 33 years of age.
Habitat:
Adults can be found in rocky areas and juveniles in tidal pools.
Diet:
They are Omnivorous and feed on small crustaceans, worms algae.
Threats:
They are on the SASSI: Red - don't buy or sell. Rather opt for a green-listed alternative. Some of the threats they face are habitat loss, pollution, overfishing etc.
Use fleshy lips to position food for cutting teeth.
Can live to 33 years of age.
Spawns in spring and summer.
