Appearance and lifestyle:
Sixstripe soapfish (Grammistes sexlineatus) have glands in their skin which produces toxic secretions against potential predators. The toxins are known as grammistins. The secretions look like lathered soap, hence the name "soapfish". They have a similar shape with rockcods, but they have fewer spines in fins. Their bodies are dark brown with yellow stripes, and they can grow up to 20cm.
Habitat:
They inhabit reefs and tidal pools in the Indo-Pacific.
Diet:
They are carnivorous and they feed on small fish and crustaceans.
Threats:
Habitat destruction, pollution, climate change etc.
Secrete toxin against potential predators.
Secretion looks like lathered soap.
They are nocturnal animals.
