Appearance and lifestyle:
The cape kurper (Sandelia capensis) is an oval shaped olive-green brown fish, its color depends on its mood and the environment that its in. They can grow up to 20cm and are endemic to South Africa's fresh water in the Western and Eastern Cape.
Habitat:
Cape kurpers live in southern and southwestern Cape coastal rivers, and were also introduced into the Clanwilliam Olifants River system.
Diet:
They eat insects, other invertebrates and small fish.
Threats:
This species is threatened by habitat destruction and predation by alien bass.
Grows to 20cm in length.
They are territorial and solitary animals.
While hunting, they can be motionless for long periods of time.
