Appearance and lifestyle:

Blue-cheek goby (Valenciennea strigata) is a slender pale fish that has a yellow head and a curved blue bar under its eye till its gill. They are usually seen in pairs, hovering near their burrow and they can grow till 18cm long.

Habitat:

This monogamous fish is found in the Indo-Pacific on outer lagoons and seaward reefs, over hard bottoms, as well as over sand and rubble.

Diet:

The blue-cheek goby feeds on small bottom-dwelling invertebrates, fish and fish eggs, by sifting through sand.

Threats:

Pollution, habitat loss, climate change.
