Vacancy: Marine Sciences (FET) Online and Classroom Teacher

The Two Oceans Aquarium Foundation’s Ocean Campus has a combined role of Marine Sciences online teacher and FET classroom teacher position available.

This position requires a dynamic, fun-loving, energetic person with good interpersonal skills.

The candidate is required to:

  • Facilitate tutorial sessions for Marine Sciences FET students using Zoom.
  • Set and mark assessments with the National Collaboration initiative as well as record results and communicate results to schools.
  • Assist and facilitate exposure days for Marine Sciences students.
  • Edit and populate the Marine Sciences Learning Management System (Thinkific)
  • Teach Marine Sciences focused lessons to learners in various grades and ages/ assist in facilitating courses run by the Two Oceans Aquarium Foundation’s Ocean Campus and core education.
  • Have a professional and dynamic online and in-person teaching persona.
  • Have a sound knowledge and insight into teaching pedagogy, oceanography, and marine biology.
  • Be comfortable working with live animals and speaking Infront of crowds.

Preference will be given to PGCE graduates who have specialised in Marine Sciences, applicants who display a keen interest in promoting the Marine Sciences FET curriculum in South Africa, and a passion for environmental education in general. The role will be split between the Marine Sciences department and the Core Education department. The position is based onsite and online.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree with subjects such as Oceanography, Zoology and Geography, Marine Sciences, Marine Biology or a relevant Education degree. Where applicable, a postgraduate certificate in education (PGCE) would be required for applicants not possessing a bachelor's degree in education.
  • Experience in teaching at a high school level will be beneficial.
  • The ability to teach using Zoom/Teams.
  • Eager to learn and be teachable.
  • SACE registration or proof of an application for SACE registration.
  • An excellent command of the English language is essential.
  • Computer skills are essential, including working with Excel, PowerPoint and Word.
  • The ability to work well with other people.
  • The ability to work independently without supervision.
  • Be available during teaching times. And from 16:00 until 18:00 on selected evenings to facilitate tutorials.

Contract duration:

1 January 2026 - 31 December 2026

Salary:

To be discussed at the interview, and dependent on level of experience.
