The Aquarium is looking for a collections officer to join their dynamic curatorial team. The individual will be responsible for assisting in the collection, transportation, and release of specimens to and from the Aquarium safely and effectively. The candidate must have prior experience in a marine related field with a keen passion for conservation and sustainability.
This role requires an individual who can lead a team while conducting field work, specifically the collection, classification, preservation, and documentation of marine specimens. The Aquarium strives to maintain the highest standards of animal welfare and implements the best conservation practices to ensure the survival of species within our care. The curatorial department collectively contributes to upholding the Aquariums animal ethics and general husbandry code of conduct.
Duties & Responsibilities:
• Animal Health Monitoring
• Animal Collection & Transportation Procedures
• Physical fitness to enable effective completion of field-based work.
• Animal Husbandry (include dietary needs, feeding, behaviour & env), Food Preparation, Equipment & Facilities Maintenance
• Housekeeping, Driver skills, Stock Control, Record Keeping,
• Sound knowledge of Health & Safety Legislation
• Communication and Public Interaction
• Strong organisation and time management skills
• Exhibit Maintenance
• Sound knowledge of LSS Operation
Requirements:
• National Senior Certificate
• Open water dive qualification
• Driving License Code EB
• Driving License Code EC1, Commercial skipper, Commercial class 4 diving qualification, Commercial dive supervisor (advantageous).
• Minimum of 1 years’ experience in marine related field
Salary: To be discussed at interview
Starting date: 01 November 2026 or sooner
