Vacancy: Aquarium Teacher

The Two Oceans Aquarium Foundation has a 20-year history of providing quality Ocean (literacy)education to the school community in Cape Town and beyond. We are looking for an enthusiastic and hard-working Aquarium Teacher to join our team for a 4-month period whilst one of our teachers is on maternity leave. If you are passionate about sharing information about the ocean with young people, and you inspire people when you communicate – then this may be the role for you.

Responsibilities and duties:

Reporting to the Head of Core Education, the responsibilities and duties will include:

  • Teaching multiple grades from Grade 1 to 12 both online and in person as required
  •  Present CAPS-aligned lesson offerings for FET students in Marine Science, Life Science or Geography.
  • Assist and present enrichment courses offered by the Foundation, as required.


Requirements:

  • A minimum BSc degree in Marine Science or equivalent degree or diploma.
  • Teaching qualification would be advantageous.
  • Good project focus and organizational ability.
  • Ability to present with knowledge and passion.
  • Good course development skills and knowledge of CAPS.
  •  An excellent command of English and Xhosa / Afrikaans is essential.
  • Experience with engaging with school groups around marine issues/ environmental issues is advantageous.
  • Excellent computer skills.
  • 1-2 years of working experience.
  • Be available during normal working hours, and occasionally on weekends.

Starting date: 1 April 2024.

Salary: Dependent on level of experience.
