These beautiful butterfly fish occur in the Indo Pacific, East Africa, and all the way south as far as Port Elizabeth. They are also found around Madagascar and the Seychelles.
They have beautiful chevron-like stripes on their sides and a distinct arrow-like spot on the top of their heads.
They occur on reefs where these carnivores feed on coral polyps, phytoplankton, polychaete worms and cnidaria species.
Interestingly, the scientific name for this beauty is Chaetodon madagaskariensis, with a “k” and not a “c”. The strange spelling comes from the fact that the specie was first described in a German publication.
