The blue jellies in the Two Oceans Aquarium were collected from one of the rivers near East London.
Blue jellies are related to moon jellies and range in colour from very light blue to dark purple and burgundy.
Jellies are considered a delicacy in Asia. Chinese people believe that eating jellies reduces high blood pressure. Their texture is apparently crispy, yet elastic – hence the name “rubber band salad” for a dish sold in China.
Dried jellies are also popular in Japan.
