Fast facts
- Look for the blue-green chromis above branching corals in sheltered reef areas
- Males eat unhatched blue-green chromis eggs
The blue-green chromis is found in the Red Sea and across the Indian Ocean.
They are often seen in very large groups above branching corals in sheltered reef areas.
For spawning, males prepare a nest, shared with several females, in sand, or rubble.
Males guard the nest, ventilating the fertilised eggs with their caudal fins and feed on those that do not hatch.
The eggs hatch in two or three days.
