Meet our rockhopper penguins
Get up close and personal with the adorable rockhopper penguins of the Two Oceans Aquarium.
Come and meet our too-cute rockies, Roxy, Hopper and Bubbles with our an awesome interactive Penguin Encounter! No more than two people will join our bird trainer, Hayley McLellan, for an informative, fun and exhilarating face-to-face encounter with our feathered friends.
The Penguin Encounter is suitable for anyone (although we’d discourage kids under eight from taking part).

R100 of this fee will be donated towards a penguin conservation fund.
When and where?
Every every Saturday at 11h00 in the AfriSam Penguin Pool at the Two Oceans Aquarium.
A Penguin Encounter lasts roughly 30 minutes.
What is a Penguin Encounter?
On a Penguin Encounter, two people will join our bird trainer, Hayley McLellan, for an informative, fun and exhilarating face-to-face encounter with our feathered friends.
You are invited to connect with these wonderful water birds in the company of a true expert.
The Penguin Encounter is suitable for anyone (although we’d discourage kids under eight from taking part).
It costs R350 for adults and R300 for children between 8 and 17.
A Penguin Encounter lasts about 30 minutes – although the entire process from welcoming and saying goodbye will last up to 90 minutes.
R100 of the cost of an Encounter is donated to an Aquarium penguin fund, which will be put towards a charitable cause at the end of the year.
Bookings must be made at least one day in advance and are subject to availability.

Online booking: Full payment required via credit card
Visitor Services booking: Full payment via cash or credit card
Cancellation fee
If your Penguin Encounter is cancelled more than 24 hours before the time, 50% of the fee will be refunded.
Should the Penguin Encounter be cancelled less than 24 hours before the time or on the day of the encounter, the visitor will forfeit the entire amount.
Should the visitor want to postpone his or her Penguin Encounter for another day, there is no penalty fee if the postponement is requested more than 24 hours in advance.
Should the visitor want to postpone his or her Penguin Encounter within 24 hours, this will be regarded as a cancellation.

For safety reasons, the visitor must be at least 8 years old in order to participate in a Penguin Encounter. Participants will be expected to complete an indemnity form prior to the encounter.

When reporting for your Penguin Encounter, always report to the Visitor Services desk (front desk). Failing to report for your Penguin Encounter within 15 minutes before your timeslot will result in a cancelled Penguin Encounter and you will be liable for the full amount.

The Aquarium entrance fee for Penguin Encounter visitors is included in the Penguin Encounter fee. Accompanying adult visitors will pay student rates and children pay normal fees.
