Pleased to meet you: Shoreline Café Chef de partie Evelyn Tholi

Evelyn Tholi works as the Chef de Partie (station chef or line chef) at Shoreline Café. Feeding the hungry tummies of children and kids-at-heart is the name of her game. Evelyn loves organised chaos, and enjoys herself the most when she’s working under pressure. We asked her six burning questions.

What are you reading?

Magazines mostly, like You, Drum and Bona.

What kind of music do you like listening to?

Kwaito and African folk music.

Your favourite holiday spot?

Sterk Spruit in the Eastern Cape.

What’s the craziest thing you’ve done? 

I dressed up as a baboon on Guy Fawkes Day to entertain the kids!

What’s your green tip?

When cooking, I boil water in the kettle first and then add the boiled water to the pot of ingredients on the stove. This way, I use less electricity and my food gets boiled quicker.

What do you love most about your job?

I like the rush of organised chaos in the kitchen when we are very busy. I love the shouting and running around to ensure that everyone gets their food, and then the feeling of achievement when everything went well after a rush.
