Have a whale of a time these school holidays

12 June 2013

School’s almost out, but our schools of fish are in! Come and spend time with the fascinating creatures of the ocean during the holidays, and enjoy a number of other fun activities happening at the Two Oceans Aquarium.

Arts and crafts

Apart from the regular sights – including shark feeding, penguin encounters, and exploring the touch pool – we’ve put together a great arts and crafts schedule to keep the little ones busy. From Saturday 22 June to Sunday 14 July, there will be daily activities in the AfriSam Children’s Centre, including the chance to make mobiles, book covers, coasters, bags and more (and all with a marine theme and an important educational message).

Book readings and puppet shows

Our daily puppet shows have long been a favourite with children and parents alike, but now, get the full experience with an accompanying activity book, Keep The Beach Clean, to take home with you after the show. The story follows Beauty and her ocean friends, including Sally the seal, as they learn more about plastic bags and the problems they cause for marine life.

The author, Marquerite Venter, will be doing book readings before each puppet show during the holidays. Head to the AfriSam Children’s Centre at 10h30, 13h30 and 16h00, from Saturday 22 June until Sunday 14 July. Kids will be treated to a cup of hot chocolate to enjoy while listening to the story.

Books are available for purchase at R45, and members qualify for a 10% discount.

Meet the mascots

If you haven’t met our three happy mascots yet, they will be out and about every weekend of the holidays. Come and say hi to Silver the Shark, Terminator the Seal and Samantha the African penguin.

Meal specials at Shoreline Café

If you’re looking for a bite to eat, there’s no need to venture any further than our own Shoreline Café, which will be running a daily holiday special: soup of the day and a sandwich for only R35. Delicious!

Mingle with minions

Those hilarious and adorable little minions from the animated movie Despicable Me will be visiting the Aquarium on Friday 28 June from 15h30 to 17h00 to promote their new film, Despicable Me 2. Watch the trailer below:

As you can see, we’ve made sure that you can have a whale of a time at the Two Oceans Aquarium these holidays!
