Getting ready for Casual Day
By Jacinta Subjee / 2 September 2010
Aquarium staff pulled out the stops for the 2009 Casual Day. Jacinta Subjee is pictured in the front row on the extreme left
Jacinta Subjee is the studio co-ordinator and designer at the Two Oceans Aquarium. She has been here for ages and really is part of the furniture … or should that be one of the exhibits?
Insomnia! That ugly little monster has given me many a sleepless night. I have tried every remedy recommended in my efforts to find an effective antidote to the sting of this creature, to no avail.
Eventually I found that if I pictured myself walking through the tunnels of the I&J Predator Exhibit or imagined sitting at the Kelp Forest Exhibit, the serene ebb and flow of the sea seemed to gently rock me to sleep.
Tomorrow my dream world collides with reality as I have heard that I am quite likely to see people wandering around the Aquarium in their pyjamas. Just for the record, this is not a scene from Inception (the blockbuster starring Leonardo diCaprio). It’s just our way of supporting Casual Day on 3 September.
Why not be a part of the fun and festivities? Come dressed up or dressed down – but please come dressed! And remember: No Casual Day sticker means no fun!
We tried putting a tutu on one of our sharks just for tomorrow, but found it in shreds in the tank – he must’ve not liked the colour …
For now we will have to settle for the staff and you, our visitors, to make this Casual Day a memorable one. Let’s do our bit for persons with disabilities!

Even our director, Dr. Pat Garratt joins us for the fun. He’s also in this picture. Which one of the two men do you think he is?
