A season of stars at the Two Oceans Aquarium extended opening times over the festive season

By Two Oceans Aquarium / 28 November 2007

Discover the wonders of the ocean from morning to night. See the stars come out at night. The Two Oceans Aquarium has extended its hours over the festive season so that visitors can relax in its cool tranquility after a long day at the beach or the mall. Combine the splendour of the oceans with a sundowner meal at Shoreline Café for the perfect end to a day in paradise!

The Two Oceans Aquarium, showcasing more than 3000 animals, including sharks, penguins and turtles, will be open from 09h30 to 20h00 between 17 December 2007 and 6 January 2008. Shoreline Café, the Aquarium’s family restaurant complete with children’s activity centre, will be open from 09h00 until 21h30 for breakfast, lunch and dinner over the same period. This is the perfect opportunity for young families looking for an alternative early evening dining experience to the franchise family eateries.

An all-weather venue, the Two Oceans Aquarium is the ideal destination for families wanting to escape the heat and bustle. Amongst the highlights this season will be the newly opened Nemo exhibit an interactive display enabling children to get real close to Nemo and be photographed as if inside the exhibit!

Other highlights include the hypnotic kelp forest where silver fishes glide amongst swaying kelp; the daily feeding of the fishes in the I&J Predator Exhibit (15h00) and the penguins in the Sappi River Meander Exhibit (11h30 and 14h30) and the touch pool where young and old alike can get their hands wet and touch and feel a variety of marine creatures.

Besides a myriad of spectacular exhibits, the Aquarium offers holiday activities including arts and crafts and puppet shows in the Holcim Children’s Play Centre. Shoreline Café houses the first (and only) dedicated children’s play centre in the V&A Waterfront. The centre, complete with grass and a funky modular play system, enables parents to enjoy a meal while the children play safely under the supervised eye of trained staff. Shoreline Café offers wholesome, affordable family-oriented meals ranging from fish and chips and toasted sandwiches to pastas, quiches and burgers. The restaurant also caters specifically for small fry with an extensive children’s menu - mini cereal boxes, hotdogs, purity and mini pizzas are just some of the meals on offer.

The Aquarium also indulges adventure seekers with opportunities to dive with five ragged-tooth sharks, shoals of large predators, rays and a turtle in the I&J Predator Exhibit (minimum Discover Scuba qualification required) or with the silver fishes in the Kelp Forest Exhibit (Advanced divers).
