It’s not every day you take a dip in the I&J Predator Exhibit at the Two Oceans Aquarium and dive with a shark. When two Aquarium staff members – Membership Administrator Razaan Slamong and Visitor Services Supervisor Msa Maseko –  took the plunge we were more than excited to hear about it.

The saying “slippery as an eel” is extremely apt and much patience is required when gathering these animals from the sea. Our divers collected these giant honeycomb moray eels using a large, transparent, heavy-duty plastic bag, a bottle of anaesthetic and some pilchards.

Here’s a great little video, just under three minutes long, of the great variety of sea life that can be seen at the Two Oceans Aquarium. Watch as a bluestreak cleaner wrasse hovers around our honeycomb moray eel, then get a close-up of the elegant devil firefish. You’ll see the clownfish, of course, as well as the delightful giant hermit crab. Move into the Ocean Basket Kelp Forest Exhibit, and then say hello to the ragged-tooth sharks and Yoshi, the loggerhead turtle, that live in the I&J Predator Exhibit.
