‘The Splendour of Sharks’ Exhibit opens

The Splendour of Sharks Exhibit includes a collection of spectacular shark images by world-renowned photographers, David Doubilet and Chris Fallows. The exhibit encourages people to view sharks as magnificent animals which have a rightful place in the oceans rather than as ‘man-eating monsters’. Each image is accompanied by a lesser known, but fascinating fact about the species depicted.

Coastal Clean Up Day - we need your help!

The Two Oceans Aquarium will co-ordinate a beach clean up on Mouille Point Beach on Sunday 19 September 2004 at 09:00 at the Lighthouse. The public is invited to help clean the beach and scuba divers are encouraged to participate and collect rubbish off the ocean floor.

New kids on the block

The Two Oceans Aquarium recently collected two young female ragged-tooth sharks for display in the I&J Predator Exhibit. These sharks replace “Val”, who was released back into the ocean on 4 April 2005 and her fellow ambassador, “Maxine”, on 18 March 2004. Their releases were part of the Save Our Seas Foundation Maxine, Science, Education and Awareness (M-Sea) Programme, an AfriOceans Conservation Alliance initiative.

Val’s the gal - Aquarium to release second shark

Val, a large female ragged-tooth shark, so named for the amount of Valium used to sedate her when she was collected for display, has been voted by the public as the next shark to be released by the Two Oceans Aquarium. This release follows the release of Maxine on 18 March 2004 and is part of the Save Our Seas Foundation Maxine, Science, Education and Awareness (M-Sea) Programme, an AfriOceans Conservation Alliance initiative.
