Last night, in the most beautiful city in the world, the Wheel of Excellence was opened at the V&A Waterfront to glorious weather, a whole host of very excited people and more than one South African celebrity. The Aquarium’s Tourism Co-ordinator Renée Leeuwner and Alichia Nortje, assistant to Brand & Business Manager, Jillian Grindley-Ferris, joined the prestigious launch and hobnobbed with rugby player Bob Skinstad, 94.5 Kfm’s Ryan O’Conner, MEC Alan Winde and South Africa’s king of funny, Leon Schuster, to name but a few.
Waves of change, oceans of opportunity: World Oceans Day and the Aquarium

Today, June 8, marks World Oceans Day. Almost 70% of the Earth’s surface is covered by water and each of us relies on healthy oceans to provide most of the oxygen we breath and much of the food we eat, as well as medicinal ingredients and other survival essentials. Beyond regulating our planet’s climate and supporting essential ecosystems that provide food, minerals and other resources, the oceans are a source of life, recreation, transportation and even spiritual upliftment (just ask any scuba diver). It’s totally fitting, then, that the oceans have been given their own special day.

Last Friday, 4 June, Two Oceans Aquarium mascots, Silver the Shark and Terminator the Seal, arrived at the Mouille Point lighthouse for the Heart 104.9FM walk in support of Bafana Bafana. Silver was very helpful in showing the crowd how to warm up properly. Read on to find out which famous Capetonian joined them on their walk.
