2012 Waddle for a Week Day 4 (19 April 2012): Kleinmond to Betty’s Bay By Katja Rockstroh / 20 April 2012

It had been a rough three days for the waddlers and everybody really needed to rest their aching legs. Die Rotse in Kleinmond was just the place for that. The third house to ever have been built in Kleinmond has been converted into a wonderful guesthouse with amazing seaviews and beautiful rooms.

Hermanus treated us to a lovely sea breeze and even some whales came to say hello in the far distance. The waddlers had a lovely stay at the Windsor Hotel, where Blake Albert and his staff welcomed us with open arms and a refreshing glass of juice. Breakfast was served and gladly consumed, preparing the ladies for another 24 long kilometres.

We awoke to the beautiful serenity of Mosaic Farm with a view of the lagoon. Most of us thought that a second night here would really not be too bad! After a good night’s sleep, and having been spoilt the night before by Graeme Parker, Mosaic Farm’s general manager, the waddlers were ready to go for their 24km stretch to Hermanus.

Monday morning had finally arrived. The first day of the second Waddle for a Week campaign was here and both the more experienced and new waddlers were energetic and ready to go. As a stark contrast to last year, where the waddlers woke up to rain and stormy weather, nature was on our side as there was no wind and clear skies. Our waddlers this year are Hayley McLellan (Two Oceans Aquarium), Gabby Harris (SeaWorld uShaka), Marguerite du Preez (SANCCOB), Ana-Alicia Marais (Two Oceans Aquarium), Tarryn Abrahams (SeaWorld uShaka), Matty van Eck (Lory Park) and Robynn Ingle-Moller (National Zoological Gardens).

Your guide to saving water

Your guide to saving water By Marguerite Venter, Green Times / 16 April 2012

World Water Day on 22 March made me think about how people chain themselves to trees to save rainforests, have whale wars and fights to save endangered species, starve themselves, walk great distances or climb mountains to bring across a message of conservation … But what is being done to save water? Water is a mysterious substance that not only sustains all life, but is also present in all life.  Ask yourself: How do I treat water? Like it is the essence of all life?
